They may not have pulled rabbits out of their hats or cut a woman in half (thank goodness!), but actors Steve Carell and Jim Carrey certainly worked their own brand of merry magic when we got them on the couch to discuss “The Incredible Burt Wonderstone,” their flick out Friday.
In addition to debuting a brand-new exclusive clip, the duo chatted with MTV News’ Josh Horowitz about comedy competition, Twitter tactics and poop. Yes, poop. (Would you expect anything less?)
So, without further ado, here are the five most magical moments from “MTV First: The Incredible Burt Wonderstone”:
Breaking Down Barriers
It’s not often two iconic comedians straddle your neck or lie supine across your belly, but such is the charmed life Josh Horowitz leads. Hey, where’d that banana disappear to?
You’re Doing It Wrong
Carrey and Carell both have verified Twitter accounts, but only Carrey seems to understand the mighty power of social media. Hence, his school of Carell in the art form: “First of all, that life you have, get rid of it,” he instructed. Wise words, indeed.
A Smelly Situation
We have now reached the poop portion of our programming. In a meandering segment that began with magic kits and ended with Flintstone vitamins, Carrey recalled a childhood moment in which he downed an entire bottle of the colorful chewables. “I bet it affected your poop,” Carell joked. “Still,” Carrey responded, before exploding with a very apropos Bamm-Bamm joke.
A Monumental Movie Awards
With the MTV Movie Awards coming up on April 14, we couldn’t help but wax nostalgic about shows of yore — including 1999’s telecast in which Carrey was near-unrecognizable as a grungy hippie. “Courtney Love thought she screwed me in the ’70s and she was trying to light my cigarette and stuff like that,” Carrey recalled.
A Christmas Cameo
While “Burt Wonderstone” owned the spotlight during our discussion, we were sure to ask about the sequel projects both have on their respective dockets: “Anchorman: The Legend Continues” for Carell and the prospective “Dumb and Dumber To” for Carrey. And then, the most awesome thing happened: Carell suggested Lloyd Christmas meet Brick Tamland in “Anchorman 2.” Let’s make it happen, Hollywood!
