On Wednesday (March 13), after nearly two years (and a month earlier than expected,) Selena Gomez & the Scene's new song "Rule the World" surfaced online.
Since Gomez revealed that Skrillex was a big inspiration on this album, it's no surprise that "Rule the World" is a club-ready track with an infectious bass-stomping beat that will immediately get her fans on their feet.
Describing this as her "tell-all" album, the apparent lead single describes the demise of a relationship that has her "wanting what they were," leaving some to believe she is referring to her own experience with ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber.
"Our love was made to rule the world/ you came and broke the perfect girl/... Forget forever / Forget you ever knew my name/ Just go away," Gomez sings on the breakup track.
Gomez recently told MTV News that on this album, her follow-up to 2011's When the Sun Goes Down, that her Selenators will know "everything she went through" once they listen to her upcoming effort.
"I think for me it was actually interesting to see that towards the middle of me recording my record, a big turn happened to me, and it was incredible to see how I applied that to music because I've never done that before, and it's great," Gomez told MTV News earlier this year. "I think the older I'm getting the more I'm just kind of like, I'm cool to share my side of the stories as much as I can, so I'm having a lot of fun."
MTV News has reached out to Gomez's representatives for confirmation on whether "Rule the World" will be featured on the album, but in a recent interview with Hit Fix, Gomez revealed the title of her new single is "Come and Get it" and that it would be released in April.
