Azealia Banks sure knows how to make headlines, even if it isn’t always for her music. Now, just as the Harlem rapstress is turning heads with some pretty disparaging tweets aimed at the first single from her upcoming debut Broke With Expensive Tastes.
The frantic track, produced by Lil Internet, perfectly houses Banks’ musical aggression. First she starts with a whisper, mouthing “I wanna be free” as the beat builds to a thumping riot-starter, complete with sporadic drums and buzzing basslines. By the time the hook rolls in, Azealia is screaming “what the f—” and “let me pop my sh–” as if she ever needed permission.
On Sunday, the “212” firebomb took aim at Rita Ora while the two are currently on tour in Australia as a part of the Future Music Festival. “Lol Rita Ora is so thirsty. She climbed over the wall of my dancers dressing room to snap photos. She’s been TRYING IT on this tour man…,” Banks tweeted with no filter. “She’s mad she’s Rihanna’s understudy.”
Banks continued you her attack. “Ever since I arrived on this tour Rita’s been going out of her way to try and intimidate me,” she wrote. “Taking all these candid of me when I wasn’t looking, then posting and deleting them like a weak bitch.”
It appears that Ora reached to Banks via text, a text which Azaealia posted to Instagram with the caption: “Shut up Ria Oral.”
Assuming that the text actually came from Ora herself, it seems that the UK singer isn’t playing victim either. “At the end of the day I don’t know who the f– u think you are secondly u dont know me I’ve done nothing but try b nice to u,” the Instagramed text read. “3rdly ur dancers were talkn to me further more ill see ur ass at the mother—in concert.”
The beef wasn’t exactly the highlight of Banks’ weekend, however. She almost came to blows with the Stone Roses frontman and made a lot of loot. “This weekend was CRAZYYYY .. Almost had a fist fight with Ian Brown, then hopped on stage with The Prodigy 15 minutes later,” she messaged. “Had a meeting with a huge movie director, made a bunch of cash, got a bunch of free clothes…”
