Fall Out Boy And 2 Chainz Rock NBA All-Star With ‘No Weirdness’

'He totally got us, we totally got him,' Fall Out Boy tells MTV News about their new 2 Chainz collaboration.

What Fall Out Boy lacks in height, they make up for in big, over-the-top rock tunes.

“We are the shortest people involved in the Slam Dunk contest this year I believe,” Pete Wentz told MTV News, hours before the group took the televised stage at the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest at NBA All-Star Weekend in Houston on Saturday night.

The recently reunited rock outfit took the stage in red Chicago Bulls jerseys and black jackets to perform their new single “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up)”, but they didnt come alone. For the first time ever, the band debuted the song’s remix with rapper 2 Chainz, as basketball fanatics bounced up and down in Toyota Center.

Midway through the song, the lanky Atlanta rap star shot up from below the stage and began his verse. “Light it up/ I’m so hot I’m getting fire than a fire truck,” he spit before he made his way over to Wentz’s mic screaming “Ohhh ohhh ohhh,” in tune with the track’s hook.

After Wentz and Chainz posed for an Instagram pic, many figured a musical hook-up wasn’t too far behind. At first thought, a collaboration between Fall Out Boy and Deuce comes of as strange, mostly because the band and the rapper come from two different walks of life and exist in two different genres. Skeptics weren’t sure how it was all going to work. “There wasn’t a lot of weirdness getting into it,” Patrick Stump said. “He totally got us, we totally got him.”

“I think it helps that we’re fans,” Joe Trohman added. “When the vibe is right, everybody works together without really having to discuss how to work together.”

Now that’s what we call a slam dunk.
