Rick Ross Shooting 'Nothing New' To Meek Mill

'Seeing one of your close friends in a position like that, it happens every day,' Mill tells MTV News about January shooting incident.

HOUSTON, Texas — Meek Mill has seen a lot growing up in the streets of Philadelphia. Before his days as a star rapper, the Maybach Music MC served time in jail and lived a well-documented street existence, so after Meek heard of the January 28 attempt on Rick Ross' life, he was rightfully concerned — but not all that surprised.

"I'm from the 'hood, I'm from Philadelphia, where people get killed every day so this ain't nothing new to me," Meek told MTV News on Friday (February 15) in Houston for 2013 NBA All-Star Weekend. "Seeing one of your close friends in a position like that, it happens every day."

Ross himself is ready to move on after the incident. "I'm just staying positive, I'm moving forward, and I'm just staying on top of my game," he told MTV News when he walked the 2013 Grammy red carpet Sunday.

Meek doesn't seem to be too concerned for his own safety. Even before the Ross incident, Mill was moving through the public with caution. "I move like that anyway. My jewelry real. ... You gotta move like you're going to war already, even though you're not," he said.

Wale, MMG's third major player, stressed that Rozay's situation was no joking matter and expressed his displeasure with how some made light of the shooting through the media and on Twitter. "So, what y'all think is a joke, that's somebody's health. I know his children," he said during a radio interview earlier this month on Atlanta's Streetz 94.5. "God forbid something happens, and I just lost one of my brothers. So I don't even play around with that stuff. And there's a lot of power in the tongue."
