Little Mix are coming! Little Mix are coming!
Starting this week, the ladies of the girl group are bringing big, diva-fied voices and sassy 'tudes to the States. On Tuesday (February 5), the foursome dropped their first U.S. single, "Wings," ahead of their upcoming DNA album release.
"I think probably the single 'Wings' is just the perfect introduction to Little Mix," Leigh-Anne Pinnock told MTV News about the bumping anthem. "The sound of it, the beat behind it, the lyrics, the harmonies, I think everything's in that song to show the American audience what we're about," she said. "We really do take seriously our harmonies."
Those harmonies were honed during their 2011 stint on the U.K.'s "X Factor." They went on to win the show and now they have bigger plans. They want to win the hearts of American pop lovers, and in the process, bring girl power back in a big way.
"I think, like obviously, the boys had been dominating, and it's about time we get some girl power in there," Jade Thirlwall said. "We were obsessed with girl bands and the Spice Girls were huge, like everyone in Britain absolutely loved them. It was like B*Witched, Destiny's Child, TLC, there were so many girl bands. It was really cool when you were young and you'd stay out with your friends and you'd be like 'Oh which one are you going to be?' ... We take a lot of inspiration from the '90s girl bands."
The girls know a lot about watching boy bands make their comeback. They watched their pals in One Direction make the leap across the pond last year. Now, they hope that they can follow One Direction's path and have major U.S. crossover success of their own.
"We kind of want to bring that girl power back, I think," Pinnock shared. "We're very different [in terms of our personalities in the group], but we come together. We just want to relate to as many people as possible, so I think that's why, what Little Mix is each of us is so individual, so different and then each of us comes together."
