Glitz and glamour were on full display Sunday at the 70th Annual Golden Globes with Hollywood's elite stunning on the red carpet. Mermaid silhouettes, daring red looks and classic black dresses with a twist dominated the trends on the red carpet, with so many stars taking some fashion risks.
"Mostly we had trends in the dress shape," MTV's style associate editor, Maud Deitch, said. "A lot of mermaid shapes, a lot of plays on strapless with sweetheart necklines and little frills and a lot of detailing around the best."
Yet, only a few stood out above the rest, one of them being Taylor Swift, who proved that after a breakup, looking good is the best revenge. Now, even though she didn't take home the award for Best Original Song, she did take on a much riskier style choice from what we are usually accustomed to seeing her wear. Opting for a different color palette, Swift rocked a plum Donna Karan mermaid gown, sweeping her hair up to show off the high neckline of the dress and got sexy with a sheer panel running down her sides.
"That panel was one of my favorite parts of the dress," Deitch said. "In addition to the color."
The carpet was a sea of red Sunday with many ladies opting for the striking color. "New Girl" star Zooey Deschanel turned heads in an Oscar de la Renta red gown, while new mom and Best Actress in a Drama Series winner, Claire Danes, showed off her post-baby body in Versace.
"I saw Claire Danes; she looked so great," actress Alyssa Milano told MTV News on the carpet. "In this little red number."
Yet, no one looked better in the color than Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical winner, Jennifer Lawrence, whose Dior haute couture gown hugged her in all the right places.
"She often does that body-conscious, curve-hugging, very Calvin Klein kind of look," Deitch said. "So seeing her in a more structured gown was just incredible."
Another incredible look was from Emily Blunt, whose gold cut-out Michael Kors gown shined bright among stars in white and black.
"There were actually studs all over it," Deitch said. "Like these little gold pyramid studs on top of Baroque-ish looking lace. I thought it was fantastic."
