The New Year doesn't seem to have made Rick Ross any more forgiving. As the Maybach boss keeps looks to edge out his rap competition with the release of yet another solo LP, he announced the name of his upcoming sixth album in grand fashion. And with a title like Mastermind, why wouldn't he?
After delaying the original January 1 announcement by about a week, Rozay took to Twitter on Monday afternoon (January 7) to rev up fans for his [article id="1690151"]God Forgives, I Don't[/article] follow-up. "Mastermind," he tweeted with a link to a cinematic trailer for the LP.
The two-minute, 45-second clip starts off with soulful backing music while a young lady thumbs through some classic pieces of vinyl by artists like Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye and Sade before she stops at Curtis Mayfield's soundtrack for the 1972 film "Super Fly." On cue, the instrumental from Mayfield's "Give Me Your Love (Love Song)" begins to play as the camera cuts to a number of the Boss' most-prized possessions. Viewers see a pan of his spacious waterfront home, exotic fish, expensive watches, a collection of elegant eyewear, a pair of Reebok sneakers, diamond-encrusted chains and a briefcase filled with cold, hard cash.
As the sun begins to set, Ross has a rendezvous with his lady in a hot tub. Just as Mayfield starts to sing, the screen goes black ... and the album title is revealed.
In July, after a few delays, Ross dropped GFID and earned himself a gold plaque and a 2013 Grammy award nomination in the Best Rap Album category.
