Ryan Gosling Can't Help Getting 'A Little Goofy' Around 'Gangster Squad' Co-Star Emma Stone

'It was hard for us to be dramatic,' actor admits in exclusive featurette.

Last we saw on-screen duo Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone they were falling in "Crazy, Stupid, Love" (not to mention perfecting their "Dirty Dancing" lifts) in the 2011 romantic comedy. And while their latest project, "Gangster Squad," is far more serious in tone and content, the laughs apparently haven't stopped, according to Gosling.

"Emma Stone, who I've worked with before, we get a little goofy around each other," the actor admitted in an exclusive "Gangster Squad" featurette. "So it was hard for us to be dramatic."

But there's no mistaking "Gangster Squad" for a mad-cap comedy. The Ruben Fleischer-directed crime drama set in 1940s Los Angeles follows a group of clandestine officers led by Sgt. John O'Mara (Josh Brolin) as they work to take down mobster Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn). Stone plays Cohen's "etiquette tutor" and girlfriend Grace Faraday, whom Gosling's Jerry Wooters inevitably takes to bed.

"They're putting themselves into such a dangerous situation," Gosling said of the characters' budding romance. "There's something between them that's worth that."

For Stone, working with Gosling is never a dangerous situation.

"I'm the luckiest girl in the world because Wooters is being played by Ryan," she enthused. "He's so fantastic at that kind of banter. It's so nice to see two people come alive together."

Watch the featurette above for more of Gosling, Stone and the rest of the "Gangster Squad" cast.

"Gangster Squad," co-starring Nick Nolte, Anthony Mackie and Michael Pena, opens January 11.
