Carly Rae Jepsen Rocked An Eye Patch Before She ‘Made It’: Watch A Sneak Peek!

'Best Song of 2012' winner recalls pre-show accident on Saturday's episode of 'This Is How I Made It.'

Long before Carly Rae Jepsen wondered if you’d call her, maybe, she was a kid growing up in Canada, spending her days as a “gleek.” At a young age, she knew that the only life for her was one spent in show biz.

“We had a community that had a lot of things going on music-wise,” she says in this week’s episode of MTV’s “This Is How I Made It,” airing Saturday at noon. “I was involved in musical theater in elementary school, in high school, and choir, and just kind of a little bit of a music geek.”

Jepsen first felt the power of live performance at age 7. But, as she recalls in this week’s episode, the night didn’t go as planned. “Around age 7 was the first time I had actually had my taste of the stage,” she explains. “I was involved in this talent show, and I was so excited to perform, and I had this gaudy pink dress that was in my closet and I couldn’t reach it because I was a short kid; I’m a short woman, but I was even shorter then.”

What happened next could have been disastrous, but instead seems to have worked out just fine for Jepsen, who recently won MTV’s “Best Song of 2012″ prize thanks to her infectious hit, “Call Me Maybe.”

“I just yanked on the thing,” she continues, “and the hanger came out and just flew towards me and scratched my eye. But, the show went on. I performed ‘Hello, Dolly’ in my pink gaudy dress with an eye patch that night.”

Despite the setback, it was the moment that changed everything for the pop star, who had a massive 2012, culminating in two Grammy nods . “I knew I wanted to spend my life doing it from that moment on, so nothing was gonna stop me,” she said.
