For the last five years, Michael Bay has been tied up with the "Transformers" movies, and as much as the master of explosions has excelled with robots in disguise, it's about time he got back to what made him the man in the first place: muscles and crime.
Enter Bay's passion project, "Pain & Gain." For years, the director has wanted to tell the true story of a group of clueless Miami-based fitness nuts that pull off a heist, and he finally got a chance to with Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson between the third and fourth "Transformers" movies.
Now the first trailer for "Pain & Gain" has premiered over at Yahoo! Movies, and from the very first frame, it feels like an old school Michael Bay flick. The first look features everything Bay stood for as a director: muscles, guns and girls wrapped in a kinetic and hilarious package.
In the film, Mark Wahlberg plays Daniel Lugo, who "believes in fitness." After becoming discontent with his life as a gym rat, Lugo decides to enlist the help of two fellow lifting enthusiasts, played by Johnson and Anthony Mackie, to steal from a corrupt business man (Tony Shalhoub).
Wahlberg and Bay apparently hit it off so well during filming that they started to plan their next collaboration. When word of that film started to spread on the web, any eager "Transformers" fans speculated that Wahlberg would enlist with the Autobots for the next go around. While the project reportedly wasn't intended to be the next "Transformers," Bay liked the concept so much, he signed Wahlberg up for it anyway.
