If you watched “VH1 Divas” on Sunday night (December 16) and thought that backstage must have been rife with hair-pulling and catfights , well, think again. Our contacts at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles are dishing on all the hottest moments that went down when the cameras weren’t rolling. From hugs to engagement rings to fashion highs, there was just as much excitement backstage as there was onstage.
Here are some of the top moments you didn’t see, courtesy of our pals over at VH1.
Kelly’s Diva-Certified Bling
In case you didn’t hear, over the weekend Kelly Clarkson got engaged to Brandon Blackstock, and when she took the stage to perform her track “Catch My Breath,” her engagement ring made its stunning TV debut. But before she took our breath away with her performance, she gushed about the proposal to a pal, saying, “I was freaking out when he went down on one knee and all.”
Ciara’s Hunger Games
It took one fierce-footed diva, Ciara, to pay tribute to one of the biggest male divas in the biz, Michael Jackson. Ciara got her groove on to “Billie Jean” before launching into her own booty-shaking track, “Got Me Good.” She was greeted by soon-to-be-former “X Factor” judge L.A. Reid as the two walked side-by-side. It’s what happened next that proves how much of a diva she isn’t. “All I wanna do now is go out and have a delicious meal!” she told her entourage post-performance.
Adam Lambert’s Backstage Banter
While the show is billed as “Divas,” host and performer Lambert proved to be anything but one. Not only did he mix it up with his dancers before he paid homage to Madonna and performed her track “Ray of Light,” but he also talked to all the little people who helped make the show happen, including the man in charge of his earpiece.
Kelly Rowland’s Rocking Fashion
When she wasn’t paying tribute to one of disco’s biggest queens, Donna Summer, Kelly was stunning everyone backstage with her impressive emerald-green gown, which featured a long train. She may have been one of the “Bad Girls” during her tribute performance to the legendary diva, but backstage she was all about the glam.
Miley and Demi’s Rebel Hug
These two Disney princesses took the stage and gave very different performances, but it was what they did backstage that really had us going “awww.” In between Cyrus’ rendition of “Rebel Yell” and Lovato’s performance of “Give Your Heart a Break,” the former Disney princesses shared a hug. But the love wasn’t just expressed behind the scenes: they each gushed about their performances on Twitter. They might win for besties of the night.
