As if the 40-plus years he's spent fronting Aerosmith -- or the two he logged behind the judges' table on "American Idol" -- weren't already evidence of this point, please allow us to clue you in: It doesn't take much to get Steven Tyler excited.

So last week, when MTV News spoke with Tyler about [article id="1697845"]Aerosmith's new anthem[/article] for the New England Patriots, we figured we should also ask him about the upcoming season of "Idol," which, as you've probably heard by now, is shaping up to be a contentious one, with new judges Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey reportedly at each other's throats, during auditions. (Minaj has downplayed those reports, [article id="1697445"]telling MTV News[/article] earlier this month that she and Carey are "fine.")

And, well, let's just say Tyler didn't hold back.

"I know that they've got something going on on the judges' panel, [and] it shouldn't be that, it should be just the opposite: They should have something going on, which is called 'camaraderie,' " he said. "They should have something going on so thick and beautiful that they can lay it over the new talent that's trying to birth itself. It needs to be birthed, not judged by 'entertainment' factors, it needs to be judged by people that [are] honest, true, that have the 'it' factor. Not the 'it' factor because they can fight. The f--- is that all about?"

Tyler then used last year's "Idol" champ, [article id="1697673"]Phillip Phillips,[/article] as an example of the type of artist that "camaraderie" is capable of creating, and said that he hopes Minaj and Carey can put aside their differences in order to continue cultivating new talent. Though, to be honest, he's not sure if they'll be able to do so.

"You just have to give your opinion. It wasn't hard for me, but I would imagine it's hard for some people, and they need a manager to say 'Shut the f--- up, and just give them your opinion,' " Tyler said. "These kids, they just got out of a car from the Midwest somewhere and they're in New York City, they're scared to death; you're not going to get the best [out of them]. ... If it was Bob Dylan, Nicki Minaj would have had him sent to the cornfield! Whereas, if it was Bob Dylan with us, we would have brought the best of him out, as we did with Phillip Phillips. Just saying."
