Whether Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez are [article id="1697759"]back on[/article] or not, the pop singer opened up about his relationship with his on-again, off-again girlfriend with Oprah Winfrey in an interview that aired Sunday night.
During the sit-down on "Oprah's Next Chapter,", which was filmed weeks prior to their reported relationship problems, Bieber dished about the qualities that made him fall for the actress two years ago. "I feel like she's one of the most genuine people," he said. "She just has a good heart. I can talk to her about everything."
He noted that when they first went public in late 2010, his fans didn't react all that warmly to their relationship. And while he always puts his fans first whenever he makes anything public, he added, "People say mean things, but at the end of the day I can't be single my whole life."
Bieber also revealed that he thinks the most romantic thing he's ever done for Gomez is [article id="1671462"]renting out the Staples Center to watch "Titanic."[/article] Her reaction to it at the time? "She was very impressed."
And, potential future or current girlfriends should take note, he still hasn't ruled out marrying young. "We'll see when I get there. I'm not there yet," he told Oprah when asked if he'd really like to be married by 25. And while he may put off those plans a little longer at the talk show host's request, he does know that when he starts a family he wants "a handful" of little Biebers.
However, despite wanting to have a family in the future, the teen star admitted that when he was faced with a [article id="1693606"]paternity lawsuit back in 2011[/article] he was in no way ready to add dad to his growing résumé He said, "I couldn't imagine having a baby right now. It'd be crazy. I'm not ready for that."
The conversation wasn't just about his love life. He also addressed fame and how it has changed him in the years since he rose to megastar status. "There's a lot of people who are just waiting for me to mess up because a lot of teen stars do," he said of making the transition into adulthood. "I think it is remembering what is important. Everyone's pulling me in 30 different directions, so I have to remember to take time for myself."
He shares that he has a small team of people who help ground him during those good and the bad times. "I feel like I'm always trying to sneak in and out of places, like James Bond," he said. "It's hard. I try to keep the people that have been around me since the beginning. I have like three close friends."
And, the singer says that even he gets a little down sometimes. "Of course I get lonely sometimes. You just, sometimes you just need someone with you. Not like super, super, super depressed," he said. "But I get days where I'm just down and gloomy, just because I'm human. Some days you just feel what you've gone through. You just have pain in your heart because maybe you haven't dealt with [it]."
He added, "I love the screams and the girls thinking I'm hot, but I want it to be about my music."
The conversation turned to Michael Jackson comparisons several times, and Bieber noted that despite being young like Jackson when he started his career, he doesn't feel like he missed out on the chance to be a kid. And, he hopes that eventually the comparisons can wean out and he can be known for his own contributions to pop music.
"I definitely see myself looking up to his career and how he was as an entertainer," he said. "You felt his emotion, you felt Michael and I want people to feel my emotion."
