Hours after One Direction confirmed they have a [article id="1697256"]3-D flick[/article] in the works comes word that "Super Size Me" auteur Morgan Spurlock has been tapped to direct the film. It will follow in the footsteps of 3-D films from Katy Perry and Justin Bieber, serving as a mixture of a concert film and behind-the-scenes documentary.
The filmmaker tweeted about the news, writing, "Big News of the Day: will be making #1D3DMovie with @Harry_Styles @NiallOfficial @zaynmalik @Louis_Tomlinson & @Real_Liam_Payne."
The boys also opened up about it on the "Today" show, where they were on hand promoting their sophomore album release, [article id="1696776"]Take Me Home[/article]. "We are going to do our first-ever movie and it's going to be in 3-D and it's coming to cinemas near you on the 30th of August, 2013," Niall Horan shared.
Spurlock and Simon Cowell, who discovered the group back in 2010 on the U.K. version of the "X Factor," will serve as producers on the project. "Morgan is the perfect person to give that access-all-areas, behind-the-scenes look into what it's like to be One Direction today," Cowell said in a statement, posted on Vulture, about working with the director on the project.
If fans are wondering when Spurlock might start filming, a good guess would be sometime early next year. The band is set to hit the road on a [article id="1682975"]massive world tour in 2013[/article]. The tour officially kicks off in February 2013 at London's O2 Arena and will land Stateside June 13 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
