Is Mitt Romney The Newest Avenger?

Joss Whedon 'endorses' the governor in a new video, saying he will 'put this country back on the path to the zombie apocalypse.'

In the closing days of the presidential campaigns, Barack Obama and Mitt Romney are looking for every advantage they can get that will help them reach those undecided electorates. When it comes to Hollywood, a key endorsement from an influential creative can sway fans and ultimately the election.

That’s why it was such a big deal when Joss Whedon, the director of the biggest movie of the year and one of the most successful of all time, “The Avengers,” made his voice heard in a recently released YouTube video and gave his endorsement to the Governor of Massachusetts, but in typical Whedon fashion, there was a little more to the story.

“Mitt Romney is a very different candidate,” Whedon said in the video, “one with the vision and determination to cut through business-as-usual politics and finally put this country back on the path to the zombie apocalypse.”

According to Whedon, the policies of Mitt Romney are the only way to assure that the country meets the requirements to fall into what he foresees as a “nightmare zombie wasteland.”

“The 1 percent will no longer be the very rich, it will be the very fast,” he said.

But Whedon doesn’t claim to have all the answers. Though he may be a god to geek culture, he doesn’t know what the Zomnies will be like. “Look, I don’t pretend to see the future,” he said. “No one knows for sure if they’ll be the super-fast ’28 Days Later’ zombies or the old school shambling kind, but they’ll be out there and they’ll need brains.”

In the end, Whedon just wants us all to be prepared for whatever comes next, especially if that involves the flesh-eating undead. “Let’s all embrace the future,” he said. “Stop pretending we care about each other, and start hoarding canned goods.”
