Green Day and romance rule the track list for the “Breaking Dawn – Part 2″ soundtrack, out November 13.
Summit has confirmed that the iconic punk rockers will have a song on the album, along with Passion Pit, Ellie Goulding (whose track is produced by real-life love Skrillex), Paul McDonald and wife/ series star Nikki Reed and such “Twilight” soundtrack alums as St. Vincent (she contributed to the “New Moon” album) and Christina Perri (who previously appeared on the “Breaking Dawn – Part 1″ soundtrack).
Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt shared with Yahoo! Movies why the group wanted to get involved with the franchise as it bids a final farewell. “When we were asked to be part of the ’Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part 2′ soundtrack, we readily agreed because the films are an insane cultural phenomenon, and we have always been impressed with the way the ’Twilight’ soundtracks are so carefully curated,” he said.
MTV News had the heads-up that “Twilight” actress Reed and hubby McDonald had been cooking up something for the album way back in March when they chatted with us about it. At the time, McDonald had been trying to familiarize himself with the story. Meanwhile, Passion Pit and Iko had been attached to the project last month.
In 2011, Perri opened up to MTV News about her love for the story and her first soundtrack contribution, “A Thousand Years.” “I’ve been a really big ’Twilight’ fan for years,” she said. “For me, it just has to do most with the love story between Edward and Bella. I feel like it’s ’Romeo and Juliet,’ and they just happen to be vampires and there’s werewolves. I loved the story from day one.”
The final installment in the “Twilight Saga” opens November 16.
