Justin Bieber Finds A 'Good Mate' In Fellow Chart-Topper Cody Simpson

Australian pop star talks to MTV News about joining Bieber on his Believe tour.

Cody Simpson has seamlessly gone from YouTube sensation to chart-topper with the release of his debut album, Paradise. The Australian pop star released his first effort on Tuesday, and by the end of the day he was sitting comfortably at #1 on iTunes' pop albums chart.

So what did Simpson do to celebrate his big day? Well, he performed in front of thousands of screaming fans at the Los Angeles stop of Justin Bieber's Believe tour.

MTV News recently caught up with Simpson, who has joined Bieber for a handful of early tour dates, and he seems to be having a great time on the road.

"It's been going awesome so far," Simpson said of the tour. "I was unsure of how they would go for me, but when I got out there the whole arena was full already, and usually an hour or so before Bieber goes on maybe half of it would be full, but everyone was there and everyone was standing up and getting into my show, which is insane, and I just saw so many tweets after I came off stage saying 'definitely I'm a fan now,' 'awesome dancing.' And I was just like, 'This is incredible, I love this.' "

Simpson, who said that Bieber is "doing well" after vomiting onstage during the first night of the tour in Phoenix, Arizona, admits that the two have become fast friends.

"I got to hang out with Justin the other day in Vegas, definitely becoming a good mate of mine," Simpson said. "We didn't really chat too much about the show, but he definitely congratulated me on the performances and stuff, but we just kinda chilled, we went to this haunted house, it was just chill. We are both surrounded by music so much, so when we hang out it's just two teenagers."

Also, on the Believe tour is pop sensation Carly Rae Jepsen, who has invited Simpson to join her onstage during each of her sets to sing one of her hit songs.

"She asked me to do her hit 'Good Time' with her," Simpson said. "It's been awesome, I love that song and she's also becoming a good friend. It's just cool how we are all so young and obviously I'm kind of like the youngest of the bunch, but it's just cool that we are finding success and just like doing what we love to do and we all support each other through that."

If you've missed out on Simpson's performances, don't get discouraged, because there's a good chance he will be coming back for more.

"These shows have been going so well that they asked us to do more, so we will see," Simpson said. "We are just trying to figure out around my other commitments also and which ones I can come back and perform at."
