"There is nothing going on. Niall's my friend," she told E! News at a junket for the "X Factor," which kicks off this week on Fox. Niall and the boys of One Direction got their start on the U.K. version of the show back in 2010 and Demi joins the show this year along with Britney Spears for a revamped second season of the stateside version of the show.
She continued the One Direction's success has proven that the "X Factor" is a launching ground for real music stars and gives credit to 1D's manager and her co-judge Simon Cowell for having a keen eye when it comes to spotting talent.
"I'm really happy for One Direction and the success that they've had. It just goes to show you how crazy this competition is to making stars and the success that they have," she said. "He's a good friend of mine."
In the end, Demi said that her main man at the moment is the "X Factor" not Niall. She said, "I'm just focusing on my work right now, and that's pretty much that."
Fans will get to see her working when the new season of "X Factor" begins on Wednesday, September 12. Demi recently opened up to MTV News about the show and promised, "I think people are really gonna like it. It's really funny.
She added, "It's really honest and there's tons of drama that goes on backstage between the contestants. Which I think is going to be pretty fun to watch ... The chemistry's amazing. I have fun with every single person on the panel. We always joke back and forth. We feel really comfortable together and I really couldn't ask for a better panel to be sitting together with. They're just icons. All three of them."
