'Twilight' Trailer VMA Countdown: When Bella Met Edward

Before unveiling tomorrow's 'Breaking Dawn' trailer at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards at 8 p.m. ET/PT, MTV News revisits other epic trailers.

Dawn will break one final time Thursday (September 6) in advance of the concluding chapter of Stephenie Meyer's vampire romance, "The Twilight Saga," hitting theaters November 16. As part of the jam-packed proceedings at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards, fans will get to sink their teeth into a sneak peek of the ultimate trailer for "Breaking Dawn - Part 2."

As we look forward to the highly anticipated premiere, we're also looking back. Join MTV News as we count down to the clip with a retrospective of the bloody fantastic trailers that came before it.

Forever begins now with a look at 2008's "Twilight."

Directed by Catherine Hardwicke, the first finished clip for the franchise' inaugural installment debuted at MTV's other celebratory ceremony: the Movie Awards. Stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Cam Gigandet were on hand in 2008 to debut the scene, which depicted villainous vampire James (Gigandet) luring Bella (Stewart) to her childhood ballet studio. And with that -- and after years of rabid anticipation -- Bella and Edward were forever seared into celluloid history.

Two teaser trailers followed after which the first (and, curiously, only) full-length trailer made its debut on October 9. And as former Twilight Tuesday columnist Larry Carroll noted at the time, the nearly two-and-a-half minute sneak peek was epic.

Eschewing Bella's move to Forks or the star-crossed lovers' first meeting, the trailer opens at full speed with a key "Twilight" moment: A careening van heads straight for Bella, who is rescued by a lightning-quick Edward. One thing's clear: This well-coiffed hottie is not your average high-schooler.

From there, Bella contemplates Edward's otherworldly abilities: "You're impossibly fast and strong... I've considered radio-active spiders and kryptonite."

"All super-hero stuff, right?" Edward asks. "What if I'm not the hero? What if...I'm the bad guy?"

Quick cuts show Edward catching and cradling the iconic apple from the book's cover, the couple's first kiss and even the twinkling, luminous prom. But this romance couldn't be without its complications. Through the Pacific Northwest mist enters antagonist James, a nomadic vampire who's out for Bella's blood.

The clip reaches its frenzied conclusion in the ballet studio we know all too well by now, and is sealed with this promise from Edward: "You are my life now."

Fast-forward four years, and Edward has (and will continue to) make good on his word when "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2" hits theaters November 16.

Check out everything we've got on "Breaking Dawn - Part 2."
