Ed Sheeran’s Post-Olympics Plan: Tour, Collab, Second Album

'I think I'm gonna keep building on what I've done,' + singer tells MTV News.

Ed Sheeran was one of the many Brits who paid homage to their homeland by performing during the 2012 Olympics closing ceremony on Sunday night (August 12) in London. It was a spectacular end to the 2012 summer games as the + singer pledged his allegiance to Team GB alongside his countrymen and women.

With the closing ceremony behind him, it’s the latest coup for the British musician as he plots his takeover, both at home and beyond. Earlier this summer, his + album debuted in the top 5 on Billboard‘s album chart here in the states. And the 21-year-old admits that just because he’s had some success in the U.S., doesn’t mean he’s resting on his laurels.

“I mean it’s awesome to be able to have an album that ended up in the top 5 and ended up being a minor hit so far. We’re still working on it right now,” he told MTV News. “But to do that without a hit single … it just gives a lot of space for songs like ‘The A Team’ and ‘Lego House’ to work. It’s going well.”

Given the project’s budget, Sheeran is ecstatic about its Stateside success.

“The album is pretty much a demo album that was made for next to no budget and put together quite last minute,” he added. “But I love it. At the time, it was the best piece of work I could put out. The singles that are coming off the album very much represent me as a musician and an artist.”

That means that as he continues to tour and even work with other artists (including Taylor Swift and One Direction ), he is also working on his follow-up to the star-making record.

“I think I’m gonna keep building on what I’ve done,” he said. “Don’t fix it if it isn’t broken. I loved the music that I tour and play and write. I think it would be foolish to create something that I wasn’t totally happy with. So I’m going to keep doing what I’m doing and building on what I’ve built so far.”
