Thomas Gold Tells Fans His New York Shows Will Be 'Huge'

DJ/producer tells MTV News he's planned 'something special' for Sunday's mini-festival on Governors Island.

In the last year, more and more dance music fans have started marching to the beat of Thomas Gold's drum, and with good reason. Percussion, beat and drum are paramount to this veteran electronic music producer — as is certainly evident in his 2011 anthem, "Marsch Marsch." But equally remarkable is his ability to craft elegant melody, which took his recent single, "Sing2Me," straight to #1 on's chart.

Aside from his stellar studio work — on display on Axtone Presents Thomas Gold — what has catapulted Thomas Gold into one of the more popular music brands is his laborious effort to craft an exceptional DJ set. In times when DJ sets are scrutinized for lack of differentiation and "pressing play," Gold's name is never mentioned in the discussion, for reasons apparent to anyone who has attended one of his shows. The German native is widely celebrated for his bootlegs, mash-ups and edits.

And so New York is in for a real treat when Gold returns for two shows in the Big Apple: a Saturday night gig at Pacha and a headlining spot at his own mini-festival on Governors Island on Sunday, a highlight TG was looking forward to when MTV News caught up with him at Boom Belgium's Tomorrowland Festival recently.

"This is something that is really special to me," Gold said. "I've never done something this big, and hosting my own show at such a special location. I played there (supporting) last year with Steve Angello, so I know how it is. When they asked me if I'd be up to do it I was like, 'Wow, this is going to be a huge thing and it's a big challenge.' The team, we are working on it. I'm excited and I'm nervous."

Gold has curated a great lineup and a special percussive feature to his set, which worked magic for him at Las Vegas' Electric Daisy Carnival in June. In addition to Norman Doray, Tim Mason and Carl Kennedy, he'll also welcome the Brooklyn drumline the Brooklyn Steppers.

"I wanna do something special for that night," Gold said. "I wanna do something [for] my New York City fans because there's so much feedback all the time, and so much support. I just want to celebrate with them together. Really. I love the New York crowd!"
