Nicki Minaj Doubles Up At VMAs With 'Starships,' 'Beez In The Trap'

From beach parties to strip clubs, Minaj's eye-catching visuals earn nods for Best Female Video and Best Hip-Hop Video.

When Nicki Minaj debuted her sophomore album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, it was clear the LP was split down the middle, divided into dance-infused pop hits like "Starships" and club-friendly bangers like "Beez in the Trap." The videos for both singles are as different as their respective genres, but Ms. Minaj has a chance to take home a trophy for each at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards.

"Starships" is nominated for Best Female Video, while "Beez in the Trap" will face off with the Throne and Drake in the very competitive category for Best Hip-Hop Video.

"Starships" didn't lack color or scenery, filmed in Hawaii with beautiful beaches and Crayola-colored mountains in the background. Strutting her stuff in bikinis, like she walked straight out of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, Nicki threw a full-blown dance party on the beach, with bonfires, neon paint and a lively crew of backup dancers.

"Beez in the Trap," on the other hand, took quite a different approach. The YMCMB rapper got back to her roots, hitting the strip club with 2 Chainz for the much grittier video, clad in a skintight leotard. "When I was doing my mixtapes, I would perform in strip clubs and some of my most die-hard fans would be in these places," Nicki told MTV News, when the video premiered. "I wanted to kinda honor them — honor all my girls in the club and just say, 'Thank you for the support.' When I see the strippers and all of that, they always show me love, so I wanted to kinda make a video around them."

Last year, Nicki took home the VMA for Best Hip-Hop Video with "Super Bass," but can she do it again?
