The nominees for the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards will be revealed Tuesday morning. Who will be in the running for the 29th annual show? You'll have to wait until tomorrow to find out who will take the stage September 6 at 8 p.m. ET when the VMAs air live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
The full list of nominees and news about the first two announced performers will be revealed exclusively on air and on MTV.com at 6 a.m. Once the curtain is pulled back on the acts vying for Video of the Year, Best New Artist, Best Female Video, Best Male Video, Best Pop Video and 10 other categories, blocks of nominated videos will air on AMTV.
Nobody knows what will go down on music's most unpredictable night, but if last year's show is any indication, anything can happen — and usually does. From Beyoncé's shocking pregnancy reveal to Lady Gaga's big drag show, pint-sized tribute to Britney Spears and Tyler, the Creator's F-bomb-filled acceptance speech for Best New Artist, the 2011 VMAs delivered.
Alongside the unexpected treats there were poignant moments, including Adele's moving run through "Someone Like You" and Bruno Mars' tribute to late British soul singer Amy Winehouse. And, of course, there was Katy Perry's big night, which included a win for Video of the Year for "Firework."
Beginning Tuesday, July 31, at 6 a.m. ET, viewers can vote for general VMA categories, including Video of the Year, Best New Artist and more, by visiting VMA.MTV.com online or m.mtv.com on their mobile phone. In addition, Best New Artist is available for voting via all wireless carrier subscribers by texting BNA to 22444 or by visiting MTV's official Facebook page.
