Ed Sheeran 'Might' Play With The Who At Olympics Closing Ceremony

'I might be playing with quite a big rock band and I might be playing one of their most famous hits,' British singer tells MTV News.

Rumor has it that Ed Sheeran might be one of the lucky folks taking the stage during the closing ceremony of the [article id="1690615"]2012 Olympic Games[/article]. And, while nothing has been confirmed, reading through the thinly veiled answer the singer gave MTV News last week, it's safe to say he'll be there.

"I was told not to say anything about that and then as soon as I was told not to say anything about that it was in the Daily Mail the next day. It was a bit odd," he explained. "The closing ceremony, there were rumors I am playing the closing ceremony. Those rumors may or may not be true."

In case you haven't heard, One Direction, the Spice Girls and the Who have also been attached to the August 12 event. So, if Sheeran were to take the stage, which one of those acts might he be performing with? Well, he teased, "If I was to play the closing ceremony, I might be playing with quite a big rock band and I might be playing one of their most famous hits. Might be. And if I was doing that, it would feel quite fun, I think. And it would be quite a moment for me. But that's if I was doing it."

With all those "ifs" attached to his possibly, maybe, most likely appearance at the tail-end of the summer games in London, Sheeran did share just how he will be spending the days in the lead-up to perhaps taking the stage alongside, by all guesses, the Who.

"It's quite nice to have the Olympics on home turf," he said. "I'm going to be away for pretty much the majority. I start an Australia tour for pretty much the whole thing. And I come back for the closing ceremony. So I'm going to have the Olympics in Australia."
