Carly Rae Jepsen’s Teen Choice Performance Started With A ‘Dream’

'We started imagining the show of our dreams and what that would look like,' the 'Call Me Maybe' singer tells MTV News.

Given the meteoric rise in popularity and radio airplay of Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe,” you’d be hard-pressed to find someone who has yet to hear the catchy tune. Jepsen has been all over the place promoting and performing the chart-topper.

When MTV News caught up with Jepsen at the Teen Choice Awards , where she and her band brought the audience to their feet with a show-stopping performance of the track, we asked what made this particular performance stand out from others, like the one at the Billboard Music Awards.

“I had a big team to help me, but it started with a little bit of a dream. We started imagining the show of our dreams and what that would look like,” Jepsen recalled. “And we reached out to Teen Choice to see if it would be possible, and they helped us put it all together.”

The sudden superstar said she and her bandmates try to mix up their performances for every show or appearance, just to keep everyone on their toes and entertained.

“We like to do a little bit of a twist to it every single time so it’s not the exact same show, the exact same performance,” she said. “[For example, this time] instead of girl dancers, we have boy dancers.”

Speaking of the song’s seemingly unlimited radio play, how does Jepsen react when she hears “Call Me Maybe” on the radio? Does she sing and dance along with her song or turn it off? “It makes me a little shy, actually,” Jepsen admitted. “I feel like I have to change the station because I don’t really know what to do.”
