As more details are revealed about the haunting tragedy of the shooting that took place at a midnight showing of "The Dark Knight Rises" in Aurora, Colorado, local authorities have started to piece together a timeline of the events that took place.
Here is a collection of what we know so far, in the local time zone, Mountain Time:
Around 12:30 a.m.: According to witnesses, the gunman enters the theater through an exit door dressed all in black and wearing a gas mask and begin releasing tear gas and opening fire, approximately 30 minutes into the movie.
12:39 a.m.: Police first receive word of the shooting through numerous phone calls, with officers arriving on the scene moments later.
12:54 a.m.: Reactions start on Twitter. Witness Chayyiel Jackson tweets his shock from outside the theater: "I wish i could get a pic of all the cops i see two bodies get carried out #crazyworld."
1:03 a.m.: Domnick Bivins recounts his shock in witnessing the chaos inside the theater: "Woww Someone Just Shot Up This Batman Movie. I Literally Just Seen A Little Girl Get Carried Out With Bullet Wounds Smh The Nerve Of Ppl."
1:27 a.m.: As overheard on the police scanner: "Bring as much crime scene tape as you can." Witness Zach Eastman tweets about the scene outside the theater: "Have just evacuated our theater in Aurora. There was a shooting in our auditorium. I am safe. I know I saw one man with blood running down his hands being carried into a cop car."
1:40 a.m.: Eighteen ambulances arrive on the scene.
1:40 a.m.: First news report hit the Web via local TV station 9News.
1:42 a.m.: Also overheard on the police scanner: "All 10 people in the theater are black," meaning that multiple fatalities are confirmed.
1:56 a.m.: Lone gunman is reported to be in police custody.
2:05 a.m.: More witnesses move to safety and react online. "Realest craziest sh-- of my life," Mani tweets. "It was like a scarface movie !!!"
2:45 a.m.: Witness Caitlin tweets that she and other theater patrons are being transferred to Gateway High School: "They're putting us in a bus to a nearby high school now. #aurora #batman #shooting"
3:02 a.m.: Ten people confirmed dead (two more are later confirmed dead at the hospital) and 39 wounded.
3:41 a.m. : Witness Rachel Fedelli recounts her experience inside the theater via a series of tweets: "Our theater: bullets came through the walls and hit some people in our theater, and smoke bombs were thrown into our theater. There was blood on the floor and we were all standing there huddled at the front, helpless. Scariest moment of my life."
