Kanye West is meticulous. The Grammy-winning producer is famous for tinkering with his sound, making sure everything is just right before an album's release, so why would Cruel Summer be any different?
On Monday night, MTV News caught up with G.O.O.D Music's Teyana Taylor on her way to celebrate the album release for Nas' Life Is Good and asked her what can fans expect from the crew's compilation album, which is set to be released August 7. "Honestly I couldn't tell you that because we switch up that album like every five minutes. We add something, we turn it around, but it's so great, you gotta hear it," she said. "It's definitely similar to the movie, it tells a story for sure."
Taylor references the "Cruel Summer" film that Kanye West debuted at the Cannes Film Festival in France. The crew filmed the movie in Qatar, where they also put together the video for "Mercy," the first single off of Cruel Summer. Though she doesn't appear on the track, Teyana makes a cameo in the video. "It was fun because we did it when we were in Qatar filming the movie," she said. "It was good it was a one-take video, that's what made it so dope and I enjoyed it."
Back in April, Taylor officially inked her deal with G.O.O.D., though she'd been collaborating with Yeezy since 2010. "I had been actually working with the whole G.O.O.D. Music family for quite a while," Teyana told MTV News back in May. "Around the we did the 'Dark Fantasy' song, I was still in my contract with Star Trak/Interscope Records, and I asked for release because I wanted to find myself as an artist. I had options to go to different labels, but I felt like G.O.O.D. Music was where I wanted to be, where I fit in."
