Celebrity Favorites: [artist id="3200358"]Bobby V[/artist]
Bobby V might be a solo star at heart, but the Atlanta-based singer has had his biggest impact when he's paired with an MC, from his Yung Joc-assisted "Beep" to riding shotgun with Lil Wayne on the Cash Money superstar's "Mrs. Officer."
For his latest effort, Fly on the Wall, due in March, [article id="1656461"]Bobby V recruited 50 Cent for "Alter Ego,"[/article] the rattling Jazze Pha-produced banger from his fourth LP.
The former Mista singer said he's able to feed off the aggressive energy of hip-hop when he switches lanes to join forces with a rapper.
"I think that whenever you team up with a top-tier hip-hop artist, it just kind of brings you together with that other culture," he told Mixtape Daily. "I'm more of an R&B connoisseur. I'm very deeply rooted into R&B music. Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, the Isleys, Jodeci, D'Angelo, Babyface, Tony! Toni! Tone!, H-Town — these are all people that I grew up listening to and really made me who I am today. So when I go to this other side with hip-hop, I get a chance to experience the hip-hop side of things. 'Cause I'm not deeply rooted in hip-hop."
He is, however, well-connected, and when he reached out to "Alter Ego" co-star 50 Cent for their collaboration, the rapper was more than willing to jump on the track.
"I think that he was perfect for that," Bobby V said of Fif. "He's been doing a lot of songs now. He's not really talking about the 'shoot 'em, bang, bang' as much more now. He's much more on the ladies' side of things now, so I just felt like it was right on that introductory tip for me and him to kind of collab on that kind of song.
"He heard the record, and he was like, 'Man, you know what? I wanna hop on that,' " he added. "And he did. It came out, he did his verse, he did it real quick, and we made it happen."
