After years of speculation about their relationship, Great Britain's Prince William and his longtime girlfriend Kate Middleton are engaged. The couple has been together since 2003.
The Associated Press reports that the royal wedding will take place next spring or summer in London. The official announcement was made on Tuesday (November 16) by royal officials.
The pair, both 28, reportedly got engaged in October during a trip to Kenya. They met at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland over eight years ago.
The AP further reports that Prime Minister David Cameron sent the couple his well-wishes and was very happy when he heard the news.
According to the official announcement, which was posted on People.com, "The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince William to Miss Catherine Middleton. The wedding will take place in the Spring or Summer of 2011, in London. Further details about the wedding day will be announced in due course.
"Prince William and Miss Middleton became engaged in October during a private holiday in Kenya," the statement continues. "Prince William has informed The Queen and other close members of his family.
