Courteney Cox Says Split From David Arquette Is A 'Trial Separation'

'I don't know what will happen, but this is not like we're getting divorced,' actress says.

It's not over for Dewey and Gale just yet, folks. Not only will the two reunite on the big screen when "Scream 4" arrives in theaters next spring, but their real-life counterparts David Arquette and Courteney Cox might have a fighting chance at saving their marriage as well.

For the first time since news of their split first hit, Cox has spoken out on her recent separation from her husband of 11 years. Speaking with Australia's TV Week, the "Cougar Town" actress declared: "I don't know what will happen, but this is not like we're getting divorced.

"This is a separation, and I think that takes a lot of courage," she added. "Whatever is supposed to happen will be the best thing for us."

The actress responded to Arquette's recent interview with radio host Howard Stern, in which he revealed personal details about his sex life with Cox. "[David] is a kook. It's not shocking, and Howard Stern, he loves him and I'm a fan of Howard Stern," she said of the interview. "David is an entertainer, and I'm sure the people who listen to the radio are entertained by his stories."

Cox said she confided in "Friends" co-star Jennifer Aniston about her marital woes. "We just have fun, we laugh, we're inseparable and it's great," she said. "It's funny, a lot of really close friends are kind of going through this right now, or like Jennifer, [who] has gone through it. I don't know what's going on in the planets or what, but things are being shaken up, and I don't know what's going to happen, but, yeah, Jennifer has been amazing for sure."

While Cox said that her marriage to Arquette is not necessarily at its end, she acknowledges that she and her husband have lost touch with one another. "Sometimes you just realize, 'Wow, we actually have grown apart,' " she said.
