One of the most controversial inclusions on last year's [article id="1622767"]Hottest MCs in the Game list was Gucci Mane La Flare[/article]. Many people argued about whether or not he even deserved to be mentioned, let alone grab the #6 spot. But in a year that included a slew of new mixtapes, some very impressive cameos, the release of The State vs. Radric Davis, and a [article id="1649554"]six-month stint in jail, Mr. La Flare's[/article] earnest work paid off.
As the [article id="1649641"]2010 Hottest MCs[/article] reveal nears, Gucci's name is once again in the mix. Since finishing his jail sentence, he's maintained his momentum, as he's continued to release [article id="1647315"]mixtape after mixtape and recently put out his third major-label album, The Appeal: Georgia's Most Wanted.[/article] When MTV News caught up with Gucci on the red carpet for the [article id="1649554"]BET Hip-Hop Awards, he said he's actually looking to improve on his spot on the list.
"Even if I'm one up more than I was last year, that's good. All I look for is the improvement, said Gucci. "I'm in it for the longevity, so if I was #6 last year, if I make 5, I did good. If I make #7, I wouldn't be mad, but [if] I make #5, [that would mean] I did better than I did last year. That's how I judge what I'm doing."
He said his latest album is his best to date. It recently debuted at #4 on the Billboard[/article] 200, thanks in part to his single "Gucci Time," featuring Swizz Beatz. The album includes features from the likes of Nicki Minaj, Pharrell, Estelle and Wyclef Jean.
"I had a great time making the album. It's the last five months of my life recorded my take on things, my principles and my morals. That's all it is."
