Right outside [artist id=”1230523″]Kanye West[/artist]’s dressing room — before his big performance at Sunday night’s (September 12) Video Music Awards — NBA All-Star and World Champion Los Angeles Lakers forward Ron Artest was sitting down on the floor with his arms on his knees.
When asked why he wasn’t sitting in a seat, Ron smiled a huge grin. “I gave my ticket to my daughter,” he told MTV News backstage. “She wanted to see the show. I didn’t get to see it. I let her go. It’s all about her.”
While the VMAs were held at the Nokia Theatre, right next door to the Lakers’ home, the Staples Center, Ron Ron said he wasn’t interested in calling in any special favors. “Nah man, I’m good,” he laughed.
Ron didn’t get to see any of the show and was very interested in how the proceedings were turning out. There was one MC in particular he wanted to know about.
“Did Rick Ross perform?” Artest asked. When told that the Bawse didn’t rock the mic but instead had a special moment with VMA host Chelsea Handler, Ron frowned.
“He didn’t do ’B.M.F.’? Aw, man!” he protested. “They should have let him do that. He would have shut it down. ’I think I’m Big Meech, Larry Hoover,’ ” Artest rapped, quoting Ross’ “Blowin’ Money Fast” lyrics.
Ron did get a chance to see some of the show. He rolled with the G.O.O.D. Music crew to the house to see Kanye West and Pusha T debut “Runaway.” Ron stood with Big Sean and some of ’Ye’s crew as the Louis Vuitton Don rocked the night.
