Justin Bieber Rocks Old-School Swagger In VMA Set

Teen sensation brings fan frenzy to the big stage.

Days after [article id="1647588"]Justin Bieber previewed his MTV Video Music Awards performance[/article] for a few unsuspecting fans in Los Angeles, the teen sensation made sure everyone within earshot took notice of his VMA debut.

Introduced by sexpot Kim Kardashian, who joked about working around a restraining order against the teen superstar, the Biebs pulled up to the outdoor stage in a shiny red old-school convertible chased by dozens of hysterical fans. The teen star then bounded onto a stage ringed with screaming fans, and in a move laced with easy '50s teen-idol cool, ripped off his red letterman jacket and shades and launched into his [article id="1643829"]YouTube record-shattering hit "Baby."[/article]

Flanked by a crew of backup dancers decked out in red lettered cardigans, the 16-year-old hitmaker updated the performance's throwback vibe, tossing on a black bedazzled jacket with "Bieber" emblazoned on the back. He then went into another signature smash, "Somebody to Love," this time joined by a crew of pint-size backup dancers even more baby-faced than the teen singer.

Known for his sweet vocals and safe persona, Bieber took the final moments of his debut VMA set to rock the hell out. The pop megastar jumped on a nearby kit and wrapped up the performance with a drum solo, pounding away on the skins as his dancers and fans pumped him up and ropes of red and black streamers showered the crowd.

The Canadian phenom's big night isn't over. [article id="1644956"]Bieber is still up for the Best New Artist Moonman[/article], which is slated to be announced later in the show.
