After a series of explosive recorded telephone conversations in which [article id="1642912"]Mel Gibson threatened ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva[/article] and showered her with a string of expletives and racial epithets, the latest wrinkle in the unfolding saga is a series of purported text messages in which the troubled actor appears to admit he is struggling to remain composed.
Gossip site RadarOnline.com, which has been slowly rolling out the tapes, posted what it claimed was a series of text messages between Gibson and Grigorieva from earlier this year in which the "Lethal Weapon" actor writes to the mother of his 9-month-old daughter, "Oksana, I wasn't safe for you last night."
Gibson is at the center of a [article id="1643298"]domestic-violence investigation[/article] by Los Angeles authorities, and Radar claimed the text message was a key part of the investigation. The text was allegedly sent the day after the actor punched Grigorieva twice in the head while she was holding their then-2-month-old baby.
The "safe" text reportedly came at 3:25 p.m. January 7, the day after the alleged incident. "I spent two hours with a therapist today and have regained some perspective," Gibson, 54, reportedly wrote to Grigorieva, 40. "What I'm telling you know [sic] is I am safe & would like to come by and make amends to you, [son] Sascha and [the couple's daughter]. I won't stay, just let you say your peace and I'll say mine."
While a spokesperson for Gibson has offered a "no comment" on the tapes — though he did not deny that the out-of-control voice heard on them is that of the Oscar-winning actor/director — his lawyers have denied that he ever hit Grigorieva.
In several of the tapes, Gibson is heard making what sound like death threats against Grigorieva, and in one, he says she "f---ing deserved it" when she complains about him hitting her while she was holding the baby.
According to Radar, Grigorieva was ordered to surrender her cell phone — which holds the texts — to authorities as part of the domestic-violence investigation.
After six messages from Gibson with no response, Grigorieva reportedly responded, "I have two broken front teeth and a concussion. I can not c u today, I'm hurting. U can apologize to Sascha some other time." He then is alleged to have sent five texts in response, including one in which he begged to see her and asked, "Did you get them (the teeth) fixed yet? ... When can I see you? I need to see you this evening & then I promise I'll leave you alone for as long as you want."
The Los Angeles Times reported that as part of the domestic-violence probe, [article id="1644216"]Grigorieva is being investigated[/article] over claims that she attempted to extort money from Gibson. Grigorieva's camp has denied the allegations.
