Vanessa Carlton Comes Out As Bisexual

'I am a proud bisexual woman,' the 'A Thousand Miles' pop singer declares at a Nashville Pride event.

Vanessa Carlton revealed that she is bisexual at a Nashville Pride event she headlined Saturday.

"I've never said this before, but I am a proud bisexual woman," the singer announced, according to US Weekly.

Several readers commenting on the LGBT-themed website Queerty.com also confirmed Cartlon's statement at the Nashville Pride festival performance, which was attended by more than 18,000.

The singer repeatedly switched up the pronouns "her" and "him" while performing one of her songs, noted some attendees who posted to AfterEllen.com. The "lyrics to 'Ordinary Day' could be about a boy, girl, tranny, whatever!" Carlton is reported to have remarked. She's previously been romantically linked to John Mayer and Third Eye Blind frontman Stephan Jenkins.

The Grammy-nominated singer and pianist had a big hit in 2002 with "A Thousand Miles,", which earned a nod for Record of the Year. The earthy singer later made an unexpected career move in 2006 by joining forces with then-embattled label head Irv Gotti and signing with The Inc., which boasted hip-hop hitmakers like Ja Rule, Ashanti and Lloyd. She released her third album, Heroes & Thieves, in 2007.

Of her and Gotti's seemingly random pairing, Carlton told MTV News, "I don't have an opinion on someone until I meet them, and he instantly struck me as a music guy."
