Two years ago, with the role of Jacob Black at stake, "Twilight" heartthrob Taylor Lautner famously packed on nearly 20 pounds in order to reprise his role as a lovesick werewolf in the sequel "New Moon." Lautner's chiseled, ripped abs were ogled by Twilighters and became fodder for blogs that follow young Hollywood.
So when MTV News met up with Lautner as he promoted "Eclipse," we wondered whether the star ever feels objectified — or cold — standing around on the "Twilight Saga" film sets sans shirt.
"It's better when it's warmer," Lautner admitted to MTV News. " 'Eclipse' was better than 'New Moon' because we filmed it in the summer. But it's still a little different when I'm the only person on set with a shirt off," he added.
The 18-year-old Lautner also opened up about the journey his character takes in the third installment of the vampire franchise, remarking on how much Jacob has grown since the last film.
"Jacob's matured a lot, so that was interesting," he said. "He becomes frustrated in this one and I can see why. He gets this close to the girl, and he's been fighting for her for a long time. He's extremely persistent and he gets this close and then slammed down to the ground again and told, 'No.' "
Lautner said he sympathizes with Jacob's emotional plight. The werewolf's mature outlook doesn't necessarily get him the girl he's pining for: Kristen Stewart's Bella Swan.
"It's a pretty tough position to be in. I definitely would not want to be in Jacob's position."
If you could write the ending, who would you want Bella to end up with: Jacob or Edward? Why? Let us know in the comments!
