Zach Galifianakis is having a banner year (or two). His film credits from the last 14 months have been particularly impressive, from a scene-stealing, oft-quoted ("Tigers hate cinnamon, they love pepper") performance in last summer's [article id="1613402"]megahit "The Hangover"[/article] to his brief appearance as a disgruntled victim of a layoff in George Clooney's critical darling "Up in the Air" to a turn as Michael Cera's mom's half-dressed, beer-guzzling boyfriend in "Youth in Revolt."
With Wednesday's (May 12) announcement of the 2010 MTV Movie Awards nominees — and "The Hangover" having garnered six overall nominations, including Best Picture — we learned Galifianakis himself has been nominated for two awards: Best Breakout Star and Best Comedic Performance.
Though his competition in both categories is pretty tough, when MTV caught up with Galiafanakis to talk about his chances at taking home some Golden Popcorn next month, the funnyman all but guaranteed a win in the Best Comedic Performance category — and poked fun at his competition.
On Ben Stiller's chances of winning for "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian," Galifianakis said, "He won't." On fellow "Hangover" co-star Bradley Cooper's odds, he concluded, "[He] doesn't even deserve to be on that list." And what about "Proposal" star Ryan Reynolds? "His eyes are too close together."
For the record, Galiafanakis' competition in the Breakout Star category includes "Up in the Air" star Anna Kendrick, "Star Trek" newcomer Chris Pine, "Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire" actress Gabourey Sidibe, "Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief" actor Logan Lerman and "The Blind Side" star Quinton Aaron.
Don't miss the MTV Movie Awards, airing Sunday, June 6, at 9 p.m. ET on MTV!
