Deadmau5 Teams Up With ‘Gossip Girl,’ Tommy Lee

After triumphant week at WMC 2010, the producer appears Monday on the CW show.

MIAMI — Years before joining [artist id="2404054"]deadmau5[/artist] onstage at the Ultra Music Festival on Saturday, rocker Tommy Lee had formed an unlikely friendship with the Canadian DJ. And Lee was happy to watch his pal shine during the Winter Music Conference, which turned out to be a huge week for the Mau5. At the International Dance Music Awards on Thursday, he won three prizes, including Best Electro Track and Best Solo Artist.

“[Thursday] night for me was such an epic night. He won, like, three awards, and I got to give him one,” the Mötley Crüe drummer said. “And I’m just sitting there and I’m watching [deadmau5] up there. He’s sweeping awards like crazy. I’m like, ‘Man, I remember this dude grubbing smokes from me.’

“It was just so cool to be sitting there and go, ‘He’s f—ing killing it,’ ” Lee added. “That made me really happy. I just had a permanent grin on me.”

deadmau5, whose real name is Joel Zimmerman, will appear on the CW hit “Gossip Girl” on Monday night (March 29). Zimmerman — who, offstage, seems shy and camera-averse — found the experience to be a bit grueling.

“Yeah, the ‘Gossip Girl’ thing was kinda cool and all,” he said. “I didn’t have much of a clue at the time about what I was getting myself into, and had a laugh when they sent hair and makeup to my trailer. They looked at me with the [mouse head he wears onstage] and turned straight around.

“All the people there were really cool,” he continued. “Had a long day, though — about 14 hours of shooting for probably 20 seconds of TV. Glad I don’t have to do that every day.”

Those fans who want to get more than a 20-second glimpse of deadmau5 can inspect his Facebook page, where videos featuring Lee and Zimmerman are on display. Among the highlights is a hilarious clip that plays off a bizarre interview with old-school rock manager Andy Gould.
