'Twilight,' Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus Win At The People's Choice Awards

Sandra Bullock and the cast of 'Glee' also go home with trophies, as Johnny Depp is awarded Actor of the Decade.

The 36th Annual [article id="1629196"]People's Choice Awards[/article] kicked off awards season Wednesday (January 6) with a star-studded spectacle hosted by Queen Latifah at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. The biggest celebrities in music, television and film were honored by the fans who support them, with a record 60 million votes cast in deciding the winners.

The [article id="1629199"]top honors for the night went to "Twilight,"[/article] which led the multi-nomination contenders with four wins across six categories. "New Moon" star Taylor Lautner took home Favorite Breakout Movie Star and shared Favorite On-Screen Team with Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, as "Twilight" took Favorite Movie and "The Twilight Saga" took Favorite Franchise.

Backstage At The People's Choice Awards

Kristen Stewart lost Favorite Movie Actress to Sandra Bullock, who was recently named the top-earning star of last year for the blockbuster performances of her 2009 hits "The Proposal" and "The Blind Side." Similarly, Robert Pattinson lost Favorite Movie Actor to Johnny Depp, who picked up that award enough in the past 10 years to be named Actor of the Decade.

The night also had its share of surprises. Despite having a terrific year, with starring roles in both "Avatar" and "Star Trek," Zoe Saldana lost out in the Favorite Breakout Actress category to Miley Cyrus. "Hannah Montana: The Movie" was a box-office success, no question, but Saldana closed out her year with a role in one of the [article id="1628627"]biggest movie releases of all time[/article].

[artist id="2389485"]Taylor Swift[/artist], nominated in three categories, picked up her first People's Choice Award. She only took home one of the three, but it was the big one: Favorite Female Artist. Swift walked gracefully onto the stage with an energized crowd cheering her on and delivered an appreciative, gushing acceptance speech directed at her fans.

The viewers' choices for top TV series were "House" and "The Big Bang Theory" -- a surprise win over "How I Met Your Mother" -- in Favorite TV Drama and Favorite TV Comedy, respectively. "Supernatural" was another surprise win, beating out "Lost" for Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy Show as anticipation runs high for its upcoming sixth and final season. Newcomers "Glee" and "The Vampire Diaries" were also honored, as Favorite New Comedy and Drama Series, respectively.

The night concluded with the presentation of the Favorite Movie Actor award to Johnny Depp, who had been absent from the show coverage up to that point. "Brüno" star Sacha Baron Cohen delivered an extended introduction for Depp, naming him Actor of the Decade for multiple PCA wins over the past 10 years. The "Alice in Wonderland" star then emerged from backstage to deliver a quiet, heartfelt acceptance speech in his typically humble fashion.

It was a star-studded night, the first of many that we'll witness as we rush headlong into the 2010 awards season.
