Lil Wayne Detained After Police Find Marijuana On Tour Bus

Wayne and his entourage were pulled over before a tour stop in Texas on Friday.

Lil Wayne and an entourage travelling with him through Texas were detained by authorities on Friday after U.S. Border Patrol agents found marijuana on the rapper's two tour buses. They were released after being held for several hours; some members of Wayne's crew received citations, but Wayne did not, an attorney for the rapper told TMZ.

The Cash Money lyricist was stopped by agents on Friday while en route to a scheduled performance in Laredo, Texas. The stop was reportedly routine, but after a Border Patrol K-9 smelled the drug odor, authorities searched the rapper's two tour buses. Both vehicles were found to be carrying marijuana onboard, according to a spokesman for the agency.

A total of 12 individuals were detained for the offense, Joe Trevino, an agent with the Border Patrol, told MTV News.

The incident occurred shortly before 3 p.m. local time and the group was still being held even as Lil Wayne's scheduled performance was set for 7:30 p.m. The concert was postponed as a result of the no-show by the rapper, but has been rescheduled for Saturday (December 20), according to the venue's Web site.

The incident came at an inconvenient time for Lil Wayne. He's due in a New York court on February 9, where he's expected to be sentenced to up to one year in prison for attempted gun possession stemming from a 2007 arrest in Manhattan. The rapper also has had legal troubles in Arizona, where he was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.
