[artist id="1962774"]Katy Perry[/artist] garnered a 2010 Grammy nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for her dancey makeup-to-breakup ode, “Hot n Cold.” And the singer is surprised she’s being nominated so long after the June 2008 release of One of the Boys, on which the song appears.
“Again? Jeez!” she joked about her reaction to the news at the Grammy Nominations Concert on Wednesday night in Los Angeles. Then getting serious, she said, “No, it wasn’t that. It was, ‘Thanks!’ It was encouraging.”
Perry was nominated in the same Grammy category in 2009 for her song “I Kissed a Girl” and said it makes her feel good that her work is still being recognized in such a big way. “I just started my new record, and to think that this little record that I [shed] blood, sweat and tears over for five years of making it and then being on the road for two years … it’s been such a process,” she explained. “But to think it’s still continuing is encouraging.”
She said that the nomination has convinced her that maybe she chose the right career for herself. “I think I can do this,” she added. “I can maybe make a living. Maybe this is my job. Thanks, Grammys!”
Perry, who also presented the nominees for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocals at the event, explained what she likes about the Grammy ceremony: “You never know who the winner is,” she said. “It keeps you on your toes, so you dress to win. Which I always do, but I haven’t won yet.”
