'The City' Boss Kelly Cutrone Shares Advice She Gave Whitney Port

The PR maven tells young women to follow their dreams and 'make a lot of mistakes.'

We know [article id="1625368"]Kelly Cutrone as the tough-as-nails PR boss[/article] on "The City." But over the course of her time on "The Hills" and "The City," both of which have their season finales airing Tuesday (December 1) on MTV, Cutrone and "City" star Whitney Port have formed a beautiful little friendship.

"Well, I think I became more of a mentor [to Whitney], and I'm still her boss," Cutrone told MTV News. "Even if I wasn't employing her, I would still be in her corner. ... The reason I've done that is because she's showed through her commitment to tasks, working really hard in my agency, that she was worthy of that interest -- of me sharing that side of myself. That's why I became a mentor, because she would go that extra mile for me ... and she would give her best."

Fans of the show may wonder just what Cutrone advises the budding fashion designer about when the cameras aren't rolling. Cutrone explained that her advice is simple: Never give up on your dreams, whatever they may be.

"Your dreams are b---busters; they're not the yellow brick road, and you have to really understand, most of our life we're following this carrot to find out who we're not," she said. "Allow yourself the chance to make a lot of mistakes. And after you do, pick yourself up and keep on trying, 'cause if I quit every time I was bad at something, I probably wouldn't have made it through high school, so keep going."

Cutrone said she was once a small-town girl who made it in the big, bad city. She thinks that if she could do it, so can anyone else with determination (and some really great friends in the industry).

"I'm a really big believer that we all have this voice inside of us, and that voice is God talking to us, and we are all magical, and we all have something as specific to do as our fingerprint," she said. "And everybody should go out and do that. And I think between the ages of 15 and 32, don't worry about getting married, don't worry about settling down, don't worry about having a baby. Give birth to yourself."

Watch the season finale of "The City" Tuesday night at 10:30 p.m. ET.
