On the music front, Drake is having a pretty stellar 2009 — so much so that MTV's Hip-Hop Brain Trust just named him this year's third-hottest MC. But Drake got his start as an actor, appearing for years as star athlete Jimmy Brooks in "Degrassi: The Next Generation," and progress in this aspect of his career has been slow lately. The 22-year-old is planning to rectify that situation in the future with a move to the big screen.
"I'm working on that right now," Drake told Billboard.com. "One of my best friends in this industry is Jamie Foxx ... so hopefully we'll get to do a movie together."
At the moment, Foxx is filming Todd Phillips' follow-up to "The Hangover," a road comedy called "Due Date," co-starring Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis. Foxx is also making tentative plans to reunite with "Ray" director Taylor Hackford for a biopic based on the life of Mike Tyson. Where Drake might fit into these plans, or future ones, is anybody's guess.
Whether or not his Foxx collaboration comes to pass, Drake has his eyes on working with one of the biggest comedy writer/directors in Hollywood. "I'm a big Judd Apatow, comedic-timing fan," he said. "I love all those movies that they do. So, yeah, I really want to get back into acting. It's definitely something I'm interested in and always will be."
Of course, with his music career taking off — including a top-10 debut for his EP, So Far Gone, and the heavy urban-radio rotation of "Best I Ever Had"— Drake also plans to keep on recording. "I'm at such an early stage in my career," he told MTV News in reaction to his Hottest MCs selection. "I'm still learning from all these MCs that are on the list. Personally, I'm honored to be anywhere."
