"Twilight" fever is set to rule MTV again at the 2009 Video Music Awards, airing live on Sunday, September 13, when Taylor Lautner, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart will present an extended trailer for "New Moon."
Of course, fans might still be recovering from the stars' May appearance at the MTV Movie Awards. Sure, that show had many memorable moments, including Brüno's very comical assault on Eminem, but it was the "Twilight" crew that walked away with five golden popcorns. And who could forget the moment when Pattinson and Stewart teased every Twilighter at home with their almost kiss?
Awards went to "Twilight" for Best Kiss, Best Fight, Breakthrough Performance Male, Best Female Performance and Best Movie. When the cast and crew won for Best Movie, director Catherine Hardwicke couldn't help but thank the people who made the movie a phenomenon: the Twilighters. Thanking the "super-passionate" fans with the cast by her side, she happily took home her trophy.
"It made me feel really tough," Cam Gigandet said of his Best Fight win with Pattinson. "I don't think I've ever won a fight in my life. It was cool."
But the highlight of the night came when the cast unveiled a teaser trailer for the upcoming "New Moon."
After the show, Pattinson spoke about his newfound fame and all the attention and accolades he had been receiving since the release of "Twilight" in November 2008. "It's completely polar opposite," Pattinson said, recalling his appearance at the 2008 Movie Awards. "I don't even think anybody knew who I was last year."
The 2009 MTV Video Music Awards will take place September 13 at 9 p.m. ET. Additional celebrity presenters and performers will be announced in the coming weeks. To be the first to find out the inside scoop, follow the Inside MTV Twitter account at Twitter.com/InsideMTV.
