Heidi Montag Shrugs Off Criticism Of Her Miss Universe Performance

'I think people don't know what to expect, and how can they?' 'Hills' star says.

Heidi Montag shimmied her way through her single "Body Language" at the Miss Universe pageant on Sunday night and received mixed reviews. But the aspiring pop star doesn't care whether people liked her performance or not.

"I think people don't know what to expect, and how can they?" she told The Associated Press before hitting the stage in the Bahamas. "It's my first performance live and it's in front of a billion eyes. So I'm very excited to show everyone what I'm coming with."

The pageant marked the first time the "Hills" star had performed on television, and she added that "I'm very excited for everybody to see this. I think a lot of people are expecting something very different."

Afterward, she took to Twitter to talk about theperformance, for which she wore nude-colored, sequined track pants and a matching bra that looked very similar to Britney Spears' 2000 Video Music Awards outfit. Backup dancers flanked Montag as she danced and lip-synched to the first single off her self-titled album (due September 29). "Last night was one of the best nights of my life!!!!" she wrote. "I had so much fun! my first performance! thank you God!"

In the hours leading up to the show, Heidi tweeted about being excited for the pageant: "All things are possible with God! dreams do come true! enjoy every moment of this short life!!"
