Jay-Z, Eminem Team Up For ‘DJ Hero: Renegade Edition’

Special edition will contain two-CD pack featuring previously unreleased tracks from the hip-hop superstars.

[artist id="1269"]Jay-Z[/artist] and [artist id="502642"]Eminem[/artist] are collaborating once again, but this time it’s not for a new album. The two hip-hop superstars will be releasing a special edition of “DJ Hero,” Activision’s upcoming rhythm game.

Titled “DJ Hero: Renegade Edition” (named for Hov’s 2001 single featuring Eminem), the package will include a copy of “DJ Hero” along with an exclusive Renegade turntable controller with metal controls and finish, rather than the standard game’s plastic controller. And since “DJ Hero” is a party-friendly title, the “Renegade Edition” will also include a hard-shell carrying case for the controller that can convert into a performance-ready DJ stand.

The special edition — which is set to hit shelves along at the same time as the standard edition in October — will also contain a two-CD pack, featuring previously unreleased tracks from both Jay-Z and Eminem.

The rappers appeared onstage together earlier this year for a party celebrating “DJ Hero” at the E3 conference in Los Angeles. “DJ Hero” is a rhythm game based on the technique and music of DJing. The controller for the game is shaped like a record platter, and by spinning and scratching the record at specific times, players can reenact mash-ups and hip-hop staples. Artists contributing to the game thus far include Grandmaster Flash, DJ AM, DJ Shadow, the Beastie Boys and DJ Z-Trip, with more contributors expected to be announced.

Several mash-ups have already been revealed for the final game:

» “Feel Good Inc.” by the Gorillaz vs. “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” by Marvin Gaye
» “Jayou” by Jurassic 5 vs. “Rockit” by Herbie Hancock
» “Shout” by Tears for Fears vs. “Pjanoo” by Eric Prydz
» “Bustin’ Loose” by Chuck Brown vs. “Time of the Season” by the Zombies (DJ Shadow Mix)
» “All Apologies” by Nirvana vs. “Give It to Me Baby” by Rick James (DJ Shadow Mix)
» “Let’s Dance” by David Bowie vs. “Jack of Spades” by KRS One (DJ Shadow Mix)

The standard edition of “DJ Hero” is expected to retail for $119.99, which includes the turntable controller. No price has been set for the “Renegade Edition” of the game, but it’s expected to be between $150 and $200.
