After being hospitalized and reportedly placed under an involuntary psychiatric hold on July 15 for "medical issues," [article id="1616446"]former "O.C." star Mischa Barton[/article] has been released from the hospital.
"She was released early last week and has been improving since with the intention of resuming production with the rest of the cast [of her CW show [article id="1616624"]'The Beautiful Life'[/article]]," her rep told MTV News, though he did not confirm why Barton was hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
"I can tell you right now, Mischa Barton is doing great," Ashton Kutcher, one of the show's creators, told reporters at a technology conference in California, according to Us Weekly.
Rumors began swirling last week that the network was looking into a "plan B" in case Barton wouldn't be well enough to head back to work on the show later this week. A rep for the network had no comment about the report at the time but a week prior told MTV News that Barton's hospitalization would have no effect on the show's production.
According to People.com, a friend of the actress said Barton had "been dealing with a lot of personal issues" around the time of the hospitalization. The source admitted uncertainty about whether Barton, who was sentenced to three years' probation for a DUI in 2008, is completely healthy: "I don't know if she really ever gave up some of the bad habits that had gotten out of control a couple years back."
