Fans Share Memories Of Michael Jackson

'Michael was the man; he broke so many barriers,' writes one fan on MTVNews.com.

It seems like everyone is mourning the loss of pop icon Michael Jackson after news broke on Thursday that the legend had died at the age of 50 in Los Angeles. Celebrities have been remembering Jackson as both a friend and inspiration, not only to them, but also to pop culture and the music industry as a whole.

His fans are also sharing their memories of the King of Pop and have taken to MTV News to discuss how his music defined their lives. "What a loss! He will be missed by so many people," Don wrote on MTVNews.com. "Michael was the man; he broke so many barriers. Michael was the king of pop and always will be. No one can ever top him!!! He had such great swagger and skills."

"Wow. I never thought of a world without Michael Jackson. It just seems wrong," Fafthiepoo wrote. "I mean, I remember listening to him as far back as I can remember. My mom is the same age as MJ and listened to him back when he was in the Jackson 5. She has the records for God's sakes! Whether you think he was crazy or not, you cannot deny that he really was a legend and the world lost a really great talent."

Theeyecandy shared memories of Jackson, calling him a "beautiful person": "I'm still in a state of complete shock and total disbelief. Michael is a true icon and the greatest entertainer there ever was. More importantly, he was a beautiful person who gave so unselfishly to others. He shared his amazing talent with us all. He will always be the King of pop culture. I know that Michael is in heaven and at peace now, but I am among the millions who will miss him terribly. We love you, Michael."

Although fans are remembering Jackson for the performer he was, Ksroseblossom reminds us he was also a father and leaves behind three young children. "Just remember he was not only a music icon and an inspiration to the world. He was first and foremost a father! There are children that lost their father, their rock. They were his self-admitted greatest and proudest achievement, and for them I send out my thoughts and prayers!!"

Over on Your.MTV.com, Jgera5 compared the loss to that of another musical legend. "He was our generation's John Lennon. Now, this is no disrespect to the numerous other artists that have died between December 8, 1980, and June 25, 2009, but that was the last time there has been such a huge and shocking death in the music world. Freddie Mercury, Tupac and the Notorious B.I.G. all come close, but not like Jacko. Like Lennon, Jackson had mass crossover appeal. Jackson was a humanitarian who did face controversy with his personal life, like John. Both Jackson and Lennon are instantly among the most famous human beings in the world. And both had a shocking death."

Fans Mourn The Loss Michael Jackson

Casper99420 noted that with Jackson's passing, music videos made their return to the MTV airwaves. "Michael Jackson helped birth MTV with his videos that are once again gracing the air. Had it not been for artists like Michael, the video format for distribution of music may never have occurred."

"Wow! I'm so shocked. I don't remember one middle school memory that doesn't include Michael in it, from wearing one white glove to trying to do the moonwalk, we did everything we could to be just like him," Laurabarden wrote. "My room growing up was wallpapered with Michael. It just doesn't seem real. I do know that Michael has a very large heart and loves everyone. There is for sure a place in heaven for him. I love you, Michael!"

MTV will be paying tribute to MJ throughout the weekend with music videos, exclusive performances and calls and tweets from celebrity admirers and friends.
