Autobots, roll out! We’re just hours away from the official new trailer launch for [movie id="369059"]“Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,”[/movie] but fans are already salivating over every morsel of Decepticon evil and Optimus Prime heroics. Yes, even as the new trailer is set to hit Yahoo in glorious quicktime glory on Thursday at noon, many fans have already taken a peek at the leaked trailer online (albeit in a much lesser quality than the forthcoming official launch).
“Megatron wants what’s in my mind!” screams Sam Witwicky in the 2:32 clip, which appeared on YouTube and other Web sites Wednesday morning (April 29), a day before it was due to officially premiere online. “I just had a full-blown mental meltdown in the middle of my class. I’m seeing symbols!”
Contrasting with the action-packed “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” trailers that have come before it, the new clip focuses mainly on Shia LaBeouf’s story as Sam, the main human character in the series. It begins with Shia having a frank discussion with his pal Bumblebee, explaining that it’s time for him to move out of the house and on with his life. “Bee,” he says. “I want to talk to you about the college thing, OK?”
Although Bumblebee responds by playing the Pointer Sisters’ “I’m So Excited” song, the film focuses on themes of moving away from home and living up to your potential. So, we see Bee and the other Autobots adjusting to life on Earth, Shia using a webcam to stay in touch with Megan Fox’s Mikaela Barnes and Optimus Prime explaining that Sam can’t run away from being a hero.
“Fate rarely calls upon us at a moment of our choosing,” the Autobot leader insists after Sam’s past follows him to college, prompting Sam to counter, “This isn’t my war!”
Eagle-eyed viewers will find plenty in the clip to freeze-frame and analyze. For the first time, we see footage of the Transformers in Egypt speeding past pyramids and camels. We see the Fallen climbing a pyramid, in what looks like a badass battle. Oh, and Megan Fox on a motorcycle might be gratuitous — but it’s doubtful that you’ll hear many men complaining.
Most notable, however, is the apparent death of a key character. In the trailer we see the mighty Devastator making his way through a battle that is most likely the IMAX scene Michael Bay told us about recently . In the wake of the massive Decepticon, comic-relief character Mudflap appears to be sucked in to the outer-space killing machine. Could “Revenge” bring about the death of the new character? We’ll know for sure on June 24.
